Frequently Asked Questions
When using the Pluto promo card, does an orbiter/lander placed there count for end-game scoring and missions?
Yes, despite the card's name 'Not a Planet Since 2006,' Pluto still counts as a planet for all game effects. Orbiters and landers on Pluto count toward gold scoring tiles that award points for pairs of orbiters/landers, and they qualify for missions requiring an orbiter or lander.
With Mascamites, can I draw their cards from spaces even if I don't have any discovery markers on their board?
Yes, once Mascamites are discovered by any player, spaces with the Mascamites icon allow any player to draw cards from their deck. You can either take the face-up card or draw from the top of the deck, regardless of whether you participated in the initial discovery.
When playing with Organizations, why do games only last 4 rounds instead of 5?
Organizations have more powerful abilities that allow players to achieve more than in the base game. To balance this increased power and prevent games from running too long, organization games skip round 1 and play only rounds 2, 3, 4, and 5.
For Mascamites sample delivery, can I complete the mission immediately when my capsule reaches the destination?
Yes, while your sample capsule is at the destination matching one of your Mascamite mission cards, you may deliver it as a free action. This means you remove the capsule from the board, reveal the sample token, and immediately gain the reward shown.
When setting up with Organizations, do I gain benefits from the quick start cards' top half effects like placing orbiters?
No, when quick start cards instruct you to place orbiters, traces, or signals, you only mark those placements but do not gain any effects or benefits from doing so. You only gain the starting resources, points, and other effects listed in the bottom half of the cards.
Can I orbit or land on Pluto multiple times during the game?
Normally no, since Pluto only has space for 1 orbiter and 1 lander. However, certain cards like #15 Atmospheric Entry, #84 Sample Return, and #16 Dragonfly can remove or allow you to place additional orbiters/landers, enabling multiple visits to Pluto.
Do Mascamites cards count toward my hand limit, and how can I use them?
Yes, Mascamites cards count toward your hand limit like regular cards. You can tuck them for income, discard them for their free-action corner effect, or presumably play them as main actions depending on the specific card type.
