Frequently Asked Questions
When a monster has multiple equally good attack hexes to choose from, who decides where it moves?
The party decides where the monster moves. This happens when the monster movement priorities (fewest negative hexes, fewest movement points, etc.) result in a tie between multiple attack positions.
If I draw a null or miss card, do the added effects of my attack still happen?
Yes, all added effects of the attack are still applied even when the attack deals no damage. This includes conditions, push, pull, and other non-damage effects written on your ability card.
Can I negate damage from sources other than attacks by losing cards?
No, you can only negate damage from attacks by losing one card from your hand or two from your discard pile. This damage negation doesn't work against retaliate, hazards, or other non-attack damage sources.
Do shield bonuses reduce damage from retaliate or other non-attack sources?
No, shield bonuses only reduce damage from attacks. They don't protect against retaliate damage, hazardous terrain, or other sources of damage that aren't specifically attacks.
If a monster is immune to curse, what happens when it draws a curse card that's already in its deck?
The curse card still takes effect normally and is removed from the deck. Immunity to curse only prevents new curse cards from being added to the deck, but doesn't stop existing curse cards from resolving when drawn.
When there are two monster factions fighting each other, do they share the same attack modifier deck?
No, opposing monster sides use separate attack modifier decks (labeled M and A). This means bless and curse effects only apply to the specific faction that received them, not both sides.
Will a monster move if it would trigger traps or negative hexes to reach a closer attack position?
A monster will only move if it can find a path that triggers fewer negative hexes than alternative paths. If all paths to better positions require the same number of negative hexes, it chooses the one requiring fewer movement points. If the only way to get closer involves more negative hexes than staying put, it won't move.
